Fellow members, our executive has made a statement in regards to the non-confidence motion presented to the executive board. The statement states our motion was mainly concerned with whether a board meeting would be held in September, this is totally and completely untrue. The motion for a non-confidence vote for President Maclean has nothing to do whether a meeting will be held in September. It has everything to do with President Maclean’s recent editorial, my email asking he resign and then our motion for a non-confidence vote. When the motion was drafted the constitution was reviewed and it was recognized that the current wording for a “world without covid “was too restrictive in our current situation. It was noted that our constitution does provide the ability for the executive to call an emergency meeting within 48 hrs. Were any inquiries made on the possibility of a virtual meeting? President Maclean tweeted the PAO is doing their business virtually. The Cornwall Police Association can vote electronically. It is 2020 we have the technology. Should a motion of such magnitude be put on hold due to a pandemic ? The executive has reported they are doing what they think is best for the association which I understand that is why we elected them. The important part to remember is elected. How does a motion of such significance simply be shelved and the response be don’t worry we have an election coming in September ? The executive cites cost as being an issue, an electronic election is free while a meeting at the Best Western costs money for room rental and Bar tab afterwards. Inconvenience? Everyone can use a laptop or mobile device to log in and vote. In fact voter turn out is typically very high. Why was this member denied access to the legal opinion with an explanation that it would be released in a controlled environment? A PDF file is fairly well controlled. President Maclean did not abide by the constitution when he made a media release without discussing with the executive. The executive paid President Maclean’s legal fees of approx $5700 without a majority vote from the membership thus breaching the constitution. I have asked for clarification on this matter and I am still awaiting a response, the one I did receive was “I don’t remember” ? Part of the executive statement deals with the breach of the constitution that may occur. The constitution seems to be breached often for other things. Our motion could be done properly, through the limitations a virtual meeting, follow up meeting and electronic vote. It is time we ask hard questions and receive clear, concise answers. Why is this so difficult to achieve? Please read the motion which I have attached. Take a minute to read the constitution, the minutes of meetings and ask your association reps questions. Make your own educated decisions. Member Archambault
